Parent Checklist: Preparing for Camp & What to Bring and Pack

MY FRENCH CLASSES SUMMER CAMP

Summer Camp forms

Parents must complete, sign and return before June 7th, 2023 all required forms listed and available here.

Camp Times

Campers must NOT be dropped off early for camp. They must arrive at the start time of the camp. They must also be picked up promptly at the end. Please be sure to make every effort to have your child in camp during our operating hours. If not, they will not receive the benefits and be part of the whole camp experience.

Parking

Parking is only allowed in the designated school parking lot in front of the school.

Walking or Bike Riding

If your child will be walking or riding their bike to and from our camp, you must provide us with a written note that gives them permission to do so and the times that they will be arriving and leaving. This note must be given to the Camp Director on your child’s first day. This is for the safety of your child and for our staff to be aware of the comings and goings. You will also in this case be asked to sign a release of liability form.

Ill Child

If your child seems ill in the morning, prior to coming to camp, you should consider alternative care for your child. If they become sick at camp, parents will be notified and arrangements will need to be made to pick them up promptly. It is our goal to have a healthy camp.

Absences

If your child will not be attending a day of camp, for a planned absence, please notify the director of camp ahead of time. If your child is sick and will not be attending on that day, you will need to call us that morning at 301-246-0236.

Medications

Children should take medications at home if at all possible. All meds needed to be taken at camp will be kept with the Camp Director. Parents must fill out a Medication Authorization Form and follow our Medication Policy.

Sunscreen and insect repellent

Parents please apply sunscreen and insect repellent to your child prior to coming to camp. This will help us to insure that everyone has it on and our staff will encourage children to reapply throughout the day. Remember, cloudy days can be just as bad if not worse than sunny days. It is recommended that each child bring his or her own sunscreen and insect repellent. Please refer to our Sunscreen and Insect Repellent Authorization Form for more information.

Labeling

It is very important that all personal items and clothing be marked with your child’s name with permanent ink or labels. My French Classes is not responsible for lost, misplaced, or stolen items.

Lost & Found

All lost and found items will be displayed at the end of each day and at the end of the camp session. Please be sure to check for lost and found items daily. At the end of the camp season all items that will not have been claimed for will be donated to a local charity.

Updating your Contact Information & Keeping Us Informed

We need to be able to reach you whenever necessary. If at any time you will be at a different location or number for the day, inform the camp director in the morning at check-in. If things change during the day, contact us to let us know. We also need to be kept updated and informed on anything that could affect your child’s behavior or attitude at camp. For example, if there are things upsetting your child about camp or if there are things outside of camp causing stress.

What to Wear for Camp

Campers should dress appropriately to be active for the camp every day. Shorts, t-shirts, sneakers, and long pants for cool days. Parents: it is important for you to pack extra clothing for your child, so that they are prepared for all types of weather and any accidents. Please label all items.

What to Bring/Pack

  • Extra Set of Clothing for your child. Pack an extra set of clothing, so that they are prepared for all types of weather and accidents. This will ensure your child is prepared for the day.
  • Rain gear must be packed daily. Campers may remain outdoors during a light rain.
  • Snacks & Water: Please help us to keep our campers happy and healthy by sending them daily with plenty of snacks and lots of water. All campers must have their own water bottle with a one-touch flip lid, clearly marked with their name.
  • Sun Protection It is recommended to send your child with a hat and sunglasses for protection. Sunscreen must be applied prior to arrival at camp and camp staff will remind campers to put on sunscreen throughout the day.
  • Food for the Day: Daily food must include a morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack, and beverage. The camp does not provide any beverages or snacks, although water will be available at all times. Please send non-perishable foods and no glass containers.
  • Personal Gear: Bring any other personal gear that your child will need during the camp day. Packing everything in a backpack is a must to keep your child’s gear together.

Backpack

All items must be packed in a backpack on daily basis. Send only what is absolutely necessary for the camp, children will be responsible for all their gear and will be traveling from different activities throughout the day with their bags.

Lunches & Snacks

All lunches and snacks need to be of a healthy nature and provide your child with energy they need to be active for the entire day. All food must be non-perishable, as refrigeration is limited. Lunch boxes with ice packs work best.
